ADDENDUM,NO. 1.TO THE PROPOSED CONTAMINATED SOIL REMOVAL
AND MONITORING WORKPLAN'FOR M & M AUTOMOTIVE, 60 EAST IOTe
STREET,TRACV,CA. i
Dear Ms. Oz.
Pursuant to your request during the course of field activities, the following modifications to our workplan
dated July 29, 1998,are being documented below.
On Friday, April 30, 1999, and Monday, May 3, 1999, additional contaminated soil was observed by
Wright personnel and PHS-EHI) staff,'in the excavation area than what was originally estimated in the
workplan dated July 29, 1998.
..According to analytical data obtained during the subsurface assessment of the site, it was estimated that
_contaminated soil would not 'exceed 125 cubic yards, incorrectly referenced as 27.9 cubic yards.
(Assuming.25' x 30' x-4.5'.below ground surface (bgs) area is contaminated). Furthermore the area of
clean overburden was estimated at 25'x 30'x 8.5', or 236 cubic yards.
I
The actual dimensions of the excavation were 22' x 26'x 12' bgs,254 cubic yards or 381 tons. During the
excavation operation, saturated cbntamination was found at approximately 4 to 4.5 feet bgs, in lieu of 8.5
feet bgs.' This resulted in an excess of contaminated soil excavated by 54 cubic yards or 73 tons. There
was 161 cubic yards or 242 tons of contaminated soil transported to Forward Landfill per the Temporary
Stockpile Agreement No. 831011.
Samples''were taken from :Stockpile No. I (uncontaminated overburden soil).and analyzed ,for TPH-G,
BTEX,and MTBE under PHS-EHD oversight. Based on the results, PHS=EHD concurred with reusing the
uncontaminated overburden soil as backfill. (Refer to attached analytical).
Samples were taken'from.Stockpile No.2'(contaminaied-soil)and analyzed for TPH-G, BTEX,MTBE, and
"LEAD per Forward Landfill's Final Acceptance criteria. (Refer to attached analytical).
Samples were also taken from the excavation sidewalls, bottom of pit, ground water, and the ground water
that was pumped into the holding tank prior to backfilling the site. Analysis of samples consisted of TPH-
G; BTEX, and MTBE. Ground water samples also included oxygenates to be analyzed. (Refer to attached
analytical),
Groundwater was observed to be seeping into the excavation from the pit bottom and sidewalls at
approximately 10 feet.bgs.
Once the excavation was completed, ground water, was pumped into the 6,900 gallon holding tank on site.
(The quantity of water contained in the holding tank is approximately 5,300 gallons). A geofabric
membrane was placed into the excavation covering the sides and the bottom of the excavation to prevent
pea gravel fill from subsiding into saturated'soil or silts from migrating into pea gravel overtime.
