The
review revealed that the site had been a service station but the buildings and
underground tanks were- removed sometime in the 1970's. In April 1990, several
borings were drilled and up to 7600 ppm TPH was encountered in the soil at a
depth of about 10 feet. In August 1990, several more borings were installed
to further define the extent of soil contamination. Up to 22,000 ppm TPH was
encountered in one of the 'newrborings and a ground water sample collected from
the bottom of the boring contained up to 20,000 ppb TPH and 9.2 ppb benzene.
Contaminated soil was excavated in January 1991 and soil samples collected
from the bottoms and side walls of the excavation contained a maximum of 17
ppm TPH. Three monitoring wells were also installed, one in the former
contaminated soil area. Depth to ground water is about 11 feet, soil is
predominantly sand, and gradient is to the northeast. Two quarters of ground
water samples were collected in September and December 1991 . None of the
wells contained detectable levels of ground water contamination, including the
well installed in the former contaminated soil area and t-he downgradient well .
Based on the information provided, Board staff has determined, and the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Division concurs, that appropriate
response actions have been completed, that acceptable remedial practices -were
implemented,w and that.; atthis -t=ime ne furthea- investig-a-tion:, remedial-aor
removal action, or monitoring' is required at the Quaresma and Mothershed
Property at 91 East Thomsen Road, Lathrop.
