i
-
t ,
Review of closed site: 9110 Thornton Road
Southland Corporation
This ,site is unlikely to pose a threat to drinking water wells
due to MtBE. The' release was discovered in 1986, following a
failed precision test on one .iunleaded. gasoline -UST.' The tank and
its dispensing system were taken out of service following the
failed test . The sites entire tank system (three UST' s,
associated piping and dispensing equipment) was removed in 1991 .
}- Soil :,samples collected from beneath the tanks were all non-
detect . One piping line sample.: had 2, 100 ppm TPH_ The
contamination was vertically and laterally defined.
t. -
f The site underwent groundwater extraction and treatment: ( 186- 190)
removing an estimated 760 gallons of petroleum hydrocarbons . The
site also underwent soil vapor extraction ( 187- `91) ; 209 million
cubic feet of air/vapor was extracted and treated removing an
estimated 576 gallons of petroleum hydrocarbons .
r The site is surrounded by properties that have domestic wells,.
but a number of these wells were routinely tested for petroleum
hydrocarbons . One well located cross-gradient to the site had
minor hits of xylenes and TPH for two months in 1991; subsequent
analyses were non-detect . The .domestic wells were tested again
in 1995 prior to site closure. Results were all non-detect .
r Estimated mass of remaining contamination, prior to site closure
in 1995 was 10-gallons of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil and
F 0 .003 gallons of petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater.
4.
F'
r .
h it
y .h i3
