The comments were directed towards two
documents prepared By Groundwater Technology titled Proposal for Site Cleanup Confirmation dated
May 5, 1992, and Project Quarterly U12date RW—ort dated May 11, 1992. The following responses
address comments of the same number in your July 6, 1992 letter included in Attachment A:
1. The laboratory report for the groundwater samples collected on February 24, 1992 are
included in Attachment B.
2. Monitoring wells at the site are purged before sampling until the temperature,
conductivity, and pH of the purge water has stabilized. These parameters are recorded
in the field and are available upon request.
3. To date, the bailer in monitoring well MW-9 has not been recovered. Another attempt
will be made by the end of July 1992.
4. A signed copy of Chain of Custody Record No. 19370 is included in Attachment C.
5. The Southland Corporation acknowledges that the PHS/EHD will not agree to the
proposed method to determine attainment of a cleanup objective, nor the cleanup
objective of 10 parts per million (ppm). Data collected during the site cleanup
confirmation will be reported to PHS/EHD and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board (CVRWQCB) for review.
6. The vertical extent of the hydrocarbons detected in the soil sample collected from
beneath the product lines will be evaluated during the site cleanup confirmation. The
method of removing these hydrocarbons will depend on the vertical extent Therefore, a
plan to remediate these hydrocarbons will be presented to the PHS/EHD subsequent to
the site cleanup confirmation investigation.
Offices throughout the U.S..Canada and Overseas
