Box 404
Pleasanton CA 94566
RE: 7-11 STORE
9110 THORNTON ROAD
Please be advised that this office has reviewed the above
referenced site' s Quarterly Reports and a Work plan for the
installation of additional monitoring wells. We have found the
plan to be inadequate as the following considerations are not
addressed.
1: Continued reference is made in the quarterly reports to
gradient patterns. Data is insufficient to adequately illustrate
a true gradient or recovery capture.
2 : Additional work is needed to adequately define the area
or areas of influence and to provide for "zero-line" definition.
The installation of clustered monitoring wells may provide needed
data. However, the southern (#10 and #8968) occurrence of some
sampling detections of hydrocarbons must be addressed.
3 : Hydraulic control of the contaminant plume is doubtful.
Pumping wells PW1 AND RW1 do not appear to be creating large
enough cones of depression to capture the entire plume. In
addition, the leaking water pipe behind the store has caused the
ground water elevation in PW1 to be higher than in monitoring
well #11.
There has been too much delay and a great deal of project manager
turn over on this site. Domestic water wells in this populated
area has never been adequately nor consistently sampled and
measured. A consorted effort by Southland is needed to properly
manage and define this contaminate plume.
Administration Clinical Services Environmental Health Public Health Nursing
468-3400 468-3830 468-3420 468-3860
Air Pollution Community Services Laboratory WIC
468-3470 468-3820 468-3460 468-3280
AIDS Information 468-3820
