_ r
Ms. Diane Hinson -2- 17 May 1989
11 to 12 feet more water column to pull water from than MW-1 which
results in possible dilution. The clustered wells proposed in the April
1989 work plan are a good idea.' They may be able to explain the
discrepancies in the data between RW-1 and MW-1 by examining the
vertical distribution of hydrocarbons in ground water beneath the site.
I
6. Monitor well and monitoring well clusters proposed in the April 1989
work plan are acceptable to us, but we feel additional monitoring wells i
are needed to redefine .the plume. The "zero line" needs to be
established and proposed work will not do ,it.
7. Soil samples should be collected in brass cylinders. We do not
recommend collecting samples from the soil cores because of- the
potential for lose of volatiles when the cord is exposed to the
environment. We suggest that 1 .5-foot long split spoon sampler be used
to collect soil samples after each 5-foot section of continuous core has .
been retrieved.
On 11 May 1989 we met with Hal Miller and Walter Lubcke of Southland
Corporation. They said they wish to meet with all of us to discuss this site
as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5725.
EDWARD W.
