These reactors are the up-flow cylindrical type with
Ca'
6"inlet and outlet ports with pneumatic loading and unloading through the top which has
Ph a two foot diameter manhole. The activated carbon is coal based, virgin 4 x 6 mesh
t ;
extruded activated carbon capable of adsorbing up to 28% of its weight in gasoline,
The vapor extraction system is designed to provide maximum flow of gasoline
constituents in the vadose zone vapor utilizing the existing groundwater monitoring wells
' and intermittently the vapor extraction wells as vapor inlet wells. This technique
significantly reduces the time required to remediate the soil and groundwater. As the
vadose zone is dehydrated during "vapor development", soil moisture will be extracted
and provide for an increasing amount of vadose vapor containing gasoline to flow to the
i vapor extraction wells.
j
bM
Exponentially decreasing amounts of gasoline vapor will be extracted with time and thus
exponentially less activated carbon will be utilized to treat the extracted well vapors as the
yvadose zone and groundwater are remediated.
5
VAPOR EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY, INC.
