SOIL ED AVATM AND SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION RESULTS REPoRT
32 Tokay Street Lodi California
0 3 3 Sori Stock >le Sam2ling and Disposal
On December 14 and 16, 1992, sod samples were collected from the stockpile of
approximately 200 cubic yards generated during the additional excavation The samples
were submitted to Sparger and composited into two samples (SP -1 AB,CD and SP -2
AB,CD) for analysis The samples were analyzed for a) BTEX, b) TPH, as gasoline, c)
TPH, as diesel, d) total metals, e) soluble arsenic, and f) reactivity, corrosivity, and
ignitability The analytical results are summarized in Table 2 The laboratory analytical
reports and chain -of -custody forms are included in Appendix C
The analyses were performed to profile the soil as nonhazardous material for disposal at
the Forward landfill The analytical results indicated no concentrations of organic or
inorganic constituents exceeded state -designated hazardous waste levels The soil was
loaded and hauled to Forward on January 27, 1993 Soil disposal documentation is
included in Appendix G
3.4 Excavation Backfilling
The excavation was completed on December 16, 1992, and backfilled with 8 to 9 feet of
t1/2 inch drain rock to eighteen inches below grade The final 18 inches was completed
with aggregate base material and compacted to a minimum of 95 percent The backfilling
and compaction was completed under the direction of Raney Geotechnical of West
Sacramento, California The soil engineering report is included in Appendix D On Friday,
January 29, 1992, the remaining 4 inches below grade was paved with asphaltic concrete
by Manley and Sons Trucking
10
3.5 Soil Boring and Sampling
To confirm the limited vertical extent of TPH, as diesel, beneath the excavation and
warehouse building, the County requested drilling and sampling of soil borings
On January 25, 1993, borings AB, SB -1, and SB -2 were drilled to approximately 30 feet
below surface at the locations shown on Figure 3 Boring AB was an angled boring
drilled 2 5 feet away from the warehouse at approximately 15 degrees from vertical
Barings SB -1 and SB -2 were drilled as vertical borings The borings were drilled using
6 -inch -diameter hollow -stem augers
During drilling, the subsurface soils and alluvial materials of the unsaturated (vadose) zone
were sampled at 5 -foot intervals Logs of the soil borings were generated based from
field descriptions and are included as Appendix E After completion, the borings were
grouted with bentonite cement under the supervision of County personnel Soil cuttings
were profiled and disposed of along with the stockpiled soli
92-074A EAR q _
