In their Corrective Action Plan for this site,AGE had recommended
overexcavation of contaminated soil followed by monitored natural attenuation(MNA)of the
remaining groundwater contamination. AGE now considers MIN to be not tenable,and
recommends evaluating options for active remediation of the remaining groundwater
contamination. The methane and manganese data are suggestive of active natural attenuation
processes,but the nitrate,sulfate and iron data appear to be ambiguous. SJC/EHQ agrees that it
would be appropriate to consider utilizing an engineered remediation system to address impacted
groundwater at this time. Please submit anew feasibility study evaluating active groundwater
remediation methods to our office no later than July 28,2006. Annual monitoring for statural
attenuation parameters is approved:
AGE previously recommended switching from quarterly to annual or semi-annual monitoring and
sampling of this sites groundwater monitoring wells. SJC/EHD does not agree with this
recommendation,but would agree to a modified sampling schedule of the perimeter and offsite
wells. Quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling of wells MW-1A, MW-1 B,MW-7 and
MW-4 must continue. Annual or semi-annual monitoring and sampling of wells MW-2A,MW-2B,
,MW-3, MW-5, MW-6 and GLMW-3 should be sufficient;
lfyou have any questions please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-01337;;
Donna Horan,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan,Senior FEHS Nuel C.,Henderson,Jr., PG
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
ee: James Barton.,CVRWQCB
Eyrene Fisher,AGE
