(AGE) on your behalf and has the following comments:
The CAP reviews several different methods for remediation of the }petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination present in the sail and groundwater at the site. Utilizing site-
specific data obtained from site investigations completed to date, the methods were
evaluated for their cost effectiveness and their potential for mitigating the contamination.
In addition, the CAP discussed the threat posed by the contamination to nearby surface
and groundwater:
In the CAP,AGE recommends excavation as the most effective method for remediation
the impacted sail, and monitored natural attenuation as the most effective method for
remediation,of tate impacted groundwater. AGE further recommends preparation of a
Remedial Action Work Plan (RAP)detailing the proposed soil excavation.
SJC/EHD agrees with AGE's recommendations, Please proceed with preparation of a
RAP for the recommended remedial alternatives. The RAP should include provisions
for any additional site characterization necessary to fully evaluate natural attenuation
and to properly monitor and demonstrate the effectiveness of natural attenuation. The
RAP is due September 30, 2002.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department:
Lori Duncan.
