Static Water Level Measurements
Prior to all ground water purging and sampling, static water levels in each well will be measured
using an electric water level indicator.Water level data will be recorded to the nearest 0.01-foot from
a reference point marked on the top of each PVC well casing. Before and after each use, the
measurement device will be rinsed with an Alconox solution and then clean tap water.
Ground Water Monitoring Well Evacuation
Prior to sample collection, each well will be purged utilizing '/z-inch polyethylene tubing and a
Watera-Hydro-Lift H pump equipped with a mechanical arm to surge the tubing. Each well will be
purged until: 1) a minimum of three casing volumes is removed from the well; and/or 2) the field-
measured ground water parameters(i.e.,temperature,pH,and specific conductivity)have stabilized
to ensure that each sample is representative of the surrounding aquifer ground water. In addition,
ground water will be measured for dissolved oxygen and oxidation-reduction potential. However,
if the well is purged dry prior to evacuating three casing volumes, a ground water sample will be
collected following 80 percent recovery of ground water within the well.
Ground Water Sample Collection
Ground water samples will be collected from purged wells utilizing '/z-inch diameter polyethylene
tubing and a Watera-Hydro-Lift II pump. Ground water samples will be transferred into
laboratory-supplied containers. Care will be taken to ensure that visible air bubbles are not present
in the vials after filling and capping.Ground water sample containers will be labeled with each well
designation, date, time, and sampler's initials.
Sample Handling
For the Ozone Injection Bench Scale Study, approximately 6 liters of ground water will be required
from each sampling location. Samples will be collected into laboratory-supplied amber liter
containers without sample preservative.
For the Baseline Analysis, ground water samples for Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
gasoline(TPH-g)in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified;Benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene
and total xylenes (BTEX); the fuel additives methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl
alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl
ether (TAME), ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with
EPA Method 8260 Modified analyses will be collected into four 40-milliliter(ml)volatile organic
analysis (VOA)vials without a sample preservative.
Samples for total metals analysis will be collected into one 500-m1 plastic container with nitric acid
preservative. Samples for dissolved metals analysis will be collected into one 500-m1 plastic
container without preservative.
