r
• pH by EPA Method 150.1, Conductivity by EPA Method 120.1,natural oxidation demand
as chemical oxygen demand(COD)by EPA Method 410.4; and
For water only: oxygen reduction potential(ORP)by SM 2580B,alkalinity by EPA Method
310.1, and total dissolved solids (TDS)by EPA Method 160.1.
f In addition, during purging of the wells for ground water sample collection, purge water will be
4 measured for pH, conductivity, temperature, dissolve oxygen (DO), and oxidation-reduction
potential(ORP). Laboratory reports;for soil and ground water analysis,testing methods,laboratory
quality assurance/quality control(QA/QC)reports,and sample chain of custody documentation will
be presented in a report with findings and recommendations.
Bench Scale Study
The bench scale study will consist of assessing soil and ground water samples collected from the 15
to 35 foot saturated zone. For the bench scale study,a minimum of 2,000 grams(4.4 pounds)of soil
and 2,500 milliliters (ml) or 0.66 gallons of the ground water will be required for each evaluation.
However, the analytical laboratory recommends that each set of soil samples consist of four 2-inch
by 6-inch brass sleeves; and each ground water sample consist of 6-liters. The Bench Scale Study
will be conducted by the laboratory.for a total of five days. An ozone generator will be utilized to
produce gaseous ozone into an equal weight of soil and water residing in a laboratory cleaned,
sealable and controllable beaker for beinch scale treatment. Ozone-enriched air will be continually
delivered into the matrix mixture ata rate not to exceed 100 milliliters per minute. The ozone will
be delivered by teflon tubing or chemical resistant tubing. An aliquot of 20 ml of water will be
collected on a daily basis for analysis of hexavalent chromium,-ozone, and pH.
Additional water QA/QC spike will be included in the Bench Scale Study; in conjunction with
blanks and analysis QA/QC.
On the termination of the Bench Scale Study, the remaining water will be fully re-analyzed a final
time to determine the concentration increases of Cr" and to measure the concentrations of the
additional analytes (i.e., metals and general parameters) outlined above. The Bench Scale Study
water will be held for one week, in order to analyze the chemical data and determine if additional
analysis will be required to assess whether a return to a steady state of concentration has been
achieved for concentrations of metals which are responsible for water quality degradation.
