SECTION III:
EVACUATION AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Alarms:
• Fire alarm sounds when sprinklers are set off in buildings.
• Buildings 1 through 9 have sprinklers on the east side of the street.
• Buildings 11, 12 and 18 have sprinklers on the west side of the street.
• Buildings 10, 13, 14, 15 and 17 do not have sprinklers.
• First responder in charge will designate someone to watch the sprinkler system valve to
make sure no one turns the system off before the fire department arrives.
• Notification (other than fire alarms) will be done verbally, with notification given to the
foremen in all departments by radio or telephone.
Evacuation:
• All employees should be evacuated from the building and gather at the designated
emergency meeting area.
• Employees will be instructed by their supervisors where to go for assembly, such as a
parking lot or the street. All employees will report before leaving the facility.
• Unless physically impossible, all evacuations will be made from the building to the
Sacramento Street side.
• The Emergency Coordinator will be responsible for notifying outside emergency
response agencies when an evacuation has begun.
• Evacuation drills will be done periodically (at least once a year).
Emergency:
Each department will have a Team Leader and a Team Co -Leader. Responsibility falls on the
Team Leader, or Co -Leader, in the Leader's absence, to account for all personnel in the
department and assist in their evacuation of the department offices and the building.
Follow these rules in an emergency:
• Stop or and leave the building immediately when the fire alarm sounds or when you
are instructed to do so.
• Follow instructions, avoid panic and cooperate with those responding to the emergency.
• Proceed to the designated or nearest exit.
• Turn off computers, equipment, fans, etc. and close desk drawers.
• Do not delay your exit from the building by looking for belongings or other people.
• When leaving the building, go to your designated "employee evacuation assembly
location".
• Do not re-enter the building until instructed to do so by your supervisor or fire/rescue
worker(s).
