14 February 2000
AGE-NC Project No 96-0254
bonngs PB4 and PB5 were also sampled for ground water
The soil bonngs were advanced at the site using a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 probing unit During
advancement of probe boring PBI, soil was collected continuously using a Geoprobe macro soil
sampling assembly and a 4-foot Teflon sleeve, beginning at 4 feet bsg and continuing to the total
depth of 32 feet bsg After collection, the ends of a 6-inch portion the sleeve were covered with
ITeflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape
Probe boring P132 through P136 were sampled using a Geoprobe soil sampling device loaded with
four six-inch by 1 125 inch brass sleeves After soil sample collection all soil sleeves were removed
from the soil sampler and the ends of the second 6-inch brass soil sleeve were covered with Teflon
I sheets, capped and sealed with tape The sample containers were labeled with the sample
identification (boring location, time and date)
Samples preserved for laboratory analysis were placed in a chilled container, under ice, and
transported to McCampbell Analytical,Inc ,(MAI)under chain-of-custody The sampling equipment
was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each sampling run to avoid cross-
contamination
22 SOIL LOGGING
After sample preservation, soil was extruded from the remauung portions of the sleeve and screened
utilizing an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo
Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene), and the readings were recorded on the
Boring Logs The soil was manually and visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil
Classification System (USCS) A soil profile is depicted in Appendix A
23 GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
A `grab' ground water samples was collected from probe boring PBI using a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly, consisting of pre-cleaned one-inch diameter, four-foot, 0 01 slotted temporary
well screen The probe rods were advanced to a depth of 36 feet bsg and pulled out to expose the
screened casing to the saturated zone Ground water was allowed to enter the casing The ground
water sample was extracted by lowering a Teflon bailer through the hollow center of the push rods
into the screen section
IGrab ground water samples were collected from probe bonngs PB4 and PB5 using a temporary, pre-
cleaned one-inch, 15-foot, 0 01 slotted PVC well screen The probe rods were advanced to the total
Idepth of the soil probe boring, then a screened casing was inserted into the saturated zone Ground
Advanced GeoEnvironmenta!Inc
I
