15 January 1998
AGE-NC Project No 96-0254
3 2 SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance five soil probe borings in the vicinity of the former UST to
evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon impact on soil and ground
water Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2 and are as follows
• Proposed probe boring 1 (PB 1)will be located twenty feet north of the location of soil boring
B2 to evaluate the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds,
• P132 will be located 30 feet east of soil boring B2 to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent
of the petroleum hydrocarbons,
• P133 will be advanced 20 feet west of soil boring B3 to evaluate the lateral extent of the
petroleum hydrocarbons,
• P134 will be located 20 feet south of soil boring B2 to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent
of the petroleum hydrocarbons, and
• PBS will be advanced 20 feet north-northwest of monitoring well MW-1 to evaluate the
lateral and vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbons
The proposed referenced distances are approximate and may be modified due to field conditions
or results of preceding borings with approval by the PHS-EHD The proposed probe; boring
designations utilized here are for clarity of discussion in this work plan, the final boring designations
will continue the boring numbering system currently in use on the site Due to the low petroleum
hydrocarbon concentrations encountered in the analyzed soil sample collected from boring B-6,
which also lacked field indications of significant hydrocarbon impact in all collected soil samples,
additional investigation northwest of the site is not proposed
Proposed probe borings P132 through P134 will to be advanced to 20 feet bsg PB 1 and P135 will be
advanced to 35 feet bsg or until the field observations and field screening using an organic vapor
monitor (OVM) indicate that detectable petroleum vapors are not present in the soil samples
screened from two consecutive five-foot intervals
Soil samples will be collected from PB2, P133, P134 and PB5 at 5-foot intervals beginning at 10 feet
bsg extending to the total probe boring depths, and soil samples will be collected from continuous
cores from the probe boring north of the former UST beginning at 5 feet bsg
Field procedures for advancement of probe borings and collection of soil samples are presented in
Section 4 1 1 Selected soil samples from each probe boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis
with concurrence of the PHS-EHD The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of
California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
