He
KLEINFELDER E, fR 3 r; k -
December 1, 19$9
File: 24-220030-A00 .
Mr. William R. Snavely, R.S.
Registered Sanitarian
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
SUBJECT: Tracy Community Memorial Hospital
Soil Assessment Work Plan Addendum
Dear Mr. Snavely:
A soil assessment work plan for the Tracy Community Memorial Hospital was submitted
on October 9, 1989, for the assessment of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil adjacent to a
third underground fuel storage tank. In that i work plan, Kleinfelder proposed advancing
two vertical soil borings, in addition to an existing boring, next to the underground tank.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services will not allow the tank to be closed in place
based on the results of two vertical borings adjacent to the tank. As per your request, four
soil samples will be collected directly underneath the storage tank from two angle borings.
Kleinfelder will advance two soil borings, one"at a 45 degree.angle (SB-1), and one at a 60
degree angle (SB-2), underneath the tank. SB-1 will be advanced to an auger'depth of 27
feet and SB-2 wille advanced
b to an auger depth of 33 feet. Two samples will be collected
from SB-1 at depths of 26 and 32 auger feet (1.9 and 23 vertical feet). Two samples will be
collected from SB-2 at depths of 20 and.26 auger feet (17 and 22 vertical feet). The actual
location of borings will be dependent upon adequate work space provided for.the drilling
crew,- but Kleinfelder will make every effort to advance the borings at the proposed
locations shown on Plate 1. A cross sectional view of the angle borings and tank is shown
on Plate 2.
The four samples collected beneath the tank will be submitted for chemical analysis as per
the original work plan. Ground water is anticipated approximately 12 feet below the
ground surface, which is at or near the bottom of the tank. The four soil samples will be
collected beneath the ground water surface. Kleinfelder does not recommend collecting
ground water samples directly from the boring; but will attempt to do so if required by the
County. Three ground water monitoring wells are present at the site. The local ground
water flow direction is to the Northwest. MW-1 is approximately 35 feet downgradient of
the tank and MW-2 is approximately 35 feet upgradient of the tank. The two wells monitor
the water flowing past the tank, and to date,`TPH and BTEX constitents have not been
detected above, laboratory reporting limits in the two wells.
KLEINFELDER 9795 Business Park Drive, Sacramento, CA 95827, (916} 366-1701 —
