Itat T
January 15, 1989
Mr. Gordon Boggs
Regional Water Quality Control Board
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, CA 95827
RE: Additional Site Assessment
Tracy Community Memorial Hospital
Dear Mr, Boggs:
The following letter describes the previous work and the
proposed additional assessment discussed with MX. Stephen Soil
of Xlefnfolder regarding the tank removal at Tracy Community
Memorial Hospital. We request that you review this latter and,
based on your concurrence, allow us to excavate the
contamination soil and install three ground water monitoring
wells, we would like to initiate this work either the 19-20 or
the 23--24 of January.
Baakar-ound
On September 19, 1988, two underground diesel tanks, one 500 and
the second 5, 040 gallons, were excavated and removed from the
site. One sample was collected from beneath each tank and
analyzed by California Water Labs of Modesto, California, for
total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and benzene, toluene, and
xylem (BTX) using EPA Method 8015 and EPA Method 8020,
respectively,
The eastern Sample, below the 500 gallon tank indicated a TPH
concentration of 4, 400 ppm while the western sample, below the
5, 000 gallon tank was nondetect. Both samples were nondetect
for BTX (Plate 1) . Between September 19 and October 29, 1988,
the excavation was backfilled with the removed soil to minimize
the potential, hazard of an open excavation.
On December 1, 1988, seven soil borings were advanced to depths
of 13 and 16 feet surrounding the tank excavation. Boring 4,
immediately adjacent to the western edge of the excavation
indicated a TPH concentration of 3, 040 ppm at a depth of 9 feet
and nondetect at 13 feet. Approximately 9 feet WNW of Boring 4,
Boring 7 indicated a TPH concentration of 14 ppm at a depth of
13 feet (Plate 1) . All borings were nondetoot for BTEX and the
remaining five borings were nondetect for TPH.
1420 N.
