.ti
16
kn KLEINFELDER
5 RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the results of this preliminary soil assessment investigation, Kl.einfelder
recommends that Tracy Community Memorial Hospital proceed with !,the removal and '
disposal of the contaminated soil in and west of the original tank excavation. Additional
soil borings would provide more information to further evaluate the extent and quantity of
the contamination, but because of contaminant concentration reduction to 14 ppm, 9 feet
west of the excavation, the depth to ground water of 16 feet and the urgency you have
expressed in this project, excavation appears to be'a more effective alternative.
Kleinfelder recommends that Tracy Community Memorial Hospital proceed with the
following activities: }
k
a A copy of this report should be submitted to the San' Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division for their review and consideration. Potential
Lsoil remediation target concentrations for TPH should be obtained from the
appropriate regulatory agencies.
o Tracy Community Memorial Hospital should contract a health and safety
trained licensed hazardous waste contractor to excavate and remove the soil
backfilled in the excavation and the adjacent contaminated 'soil. Special care f
will be necessary to avoid damage to the surrounding stricture west of the `
excavation. The contractor should have equipment available to excavate
contaminated soil to a depth of 15 feet. Ground water was encountered at 16
feet. All associated piping and adjacent soil to the piping should be assessed
for potential contamination.
o During the excavation of the contaminated soil, the soil should be
qualitatively screened in the field and confirmation samples collected from +
the sides and bottom of the original excavation and the new excavated area
around B-4 to quantitatively assess the TPH concentrations in the remaining
soil. The extent of soil removal may be limited by surface structures and the
depth that the equipment can safely excavate material. Contaminated soil
I
r
150-88-2193 7 k
