! ] k%j KLEINFELQER
an iced cooler for possible chemical analysis. Soil samples for possible :chemical analysis
were delivered under chain-of-custody control to:a laboratory certified by the Department
of Health Services. The remaining samples were placed on hold in refrigerated storage
under chain-of-custody control.
y Each sample was screened in the field with a Photovac TIP portable organic vapor detector
h in arts per
(PID). The organic vapor detector measures ionizable compounds in the air p p
million by volume (ppmv). Field calibration was performed using a calibrated span gas.
Ambient air was used to set the instrument zero. The screening procedure consisted of
,r
sealing a soil sample in a ziplock baggie. The sample was allowed to equilibrate, and the
headspace in the baggie was scanned for volatiles. The vapor readings were noted as the
field screening result.
The PID readings and geologist's observations of the soil from. boring B-8 indicated
possible hydrocarbon contamination. Therefore, boring B-8 was not: completed as a
monitoring well and the two bottom soil samples were submitted to the laboratory for
analysis on March 29, 1989. The analytical results are not available to date.
3.2 SOIL BORING CLOSURE
Soil boring B-8 was not completed as a ground, water monitoring well, therefore, it was
closed after the collection and logging of the soil samples. Closure was accomplished by
tremie grouting the boring with a cement/bentonite slurry. This grouting procedure was
inspected by a SJLHD representative.
3.3 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
Ground water monitoring wells were constructed in the other three -soil borings upon
completion of the drilling. The locations of the monitoring wells are shown on Plate 2,
p g
Monitoring Well Location Map.
The monitoring wells were constructed as follows:
t
o Soil borings were drilled with 8-inch hollow-stem augers.
175-89-543
4 r
