k" KLEINFELDER
4 SITE GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
1
Four soil borings were drilled between March 15 through 17, 1989. The total depths of the
borings range from 29.5 feet to 34.5 feet below ground surface. The subsurface lithology
consists primarily of sandy silts and. silty clays. Some lenses of fine sand, medium coarse
sand, and some sandy gravel are present in individual borings but do not appear to be
prevailing as a continuous sedimentary unit.
Saturated conditions were encountered in MW-1' at 18.5 feet in MW-2' at 14.0 feet in
Boring B-8 at 14.5 feet, and in MW73 at 14.0 feet`below the ground surface. The aquifer
exists under nonconfined conditions, and the local'direction of ground water flow is toward
the hospital due to the pumping of groundwater from beneath the hospital. Due to depth
of the hospital basement, pumping. is maintained to lower the immediate ground water
table.
1
L
175-89-543 8
a
