RS FEB 2 3 2004 <br /> ENVIRONMEPv`T HEALTH <br /> PERMIT/SERVICES <br /> February 19, 2004 <br /> Mr Harlin Knoll 02093 <br /> San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department 06 a3 <br /> 304 E Weber Street, Third Floor <br /> Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> RE: Well Destruction Report for TEX-1 <br /> ARCO Service Station No.2093 <br /> 3425 Tracy-Boulevard,Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Knoll <br /> URS Corporation Americas (URS), on behalf of Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO - a BP affiliated <br /> company), has prepared this report to document well destruction activities conducted at ARCO Station <br /> No 2093 located at 3425 Tracy Boulevard, Tracy, California (Figures 1 and 2) The San Joaquin <br /> County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) requested the destruction of well TEX-1 in the <br /> letter dated March 29, 2003, and the electronic mail letter dated October 29, 2003 (Attachment A) <br /> Permitting <br /> A well destruction permit was obtained from the SJCEHD prior to conducting field activities on the site <br /> (Attachment B) <br /> Well Destruction Activities <br /> On January 26, 2004, groundwater extraction well TEX-I was destroyed under the direction of a URS <br /> geologist (Figure 2) The well was constructed of 6-mch diameter poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) casing <br /> inside a 12-inch diameter borehole The total depth for the well was approximately 38 5 feet below <br /> ground surface(bgs) <br /> Woodward Drilling Company, Inc of Rio Vista, California, conducted well destruction activities <br /> Before over drilling, the driller attempted to pull the casing from the borehole The driller was able to <br /> pull approximately 25 feet of casing from the borehole The borehole was then over drilled to the total <br /> depth of 38 5 feet bgs with 12-inch augers A tremmie pipe was used to seal the borehole from total <br /> depth to the bottom of the well vault box with neat cement grout Approximately 3 drums of sand filter <br /> pack material and ground up casing were extracted from the borehole Approximately two drums of <br /> filter pack material were mixed with neat cement grout in order to fill in the well vault box to within <br /> approximately 4 inches of the ground surface The remaining four inches of the vault box were then <br /> filled with concrete and tinted to match the surrounding ground surface The Department of Water <br /> Resources (DWR) well destruction report is included as Attachment C <br /> URS Corporation <br /> Crown Corporate Center <br /> 2870 Gateway Oaks Drive Suite 300 <br /> Sacramento CA 95833 <br /> Tel 916 679 2000 <br /> Fax 916 679 2900 <br />
