URS <br /> December 22, 2005 <br /> Mr Harlin KnollRZ <br /> � � '; t 02093 <br /> San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department �� 91& 1 �' =0 <br /> 06 a3 <br /> 304 E Weber Street, Third Floor <br /> Stockton, CA 95202 L, I <br /> RE: Well Destruction Reportr I iLALTH <br /> ARCO Service Station No.2093 tdVRM-1 / � 1 <br /> �ER��i�ISLRVICES <br /> 3425 Tracy Boulevard,Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Knoll <br /> URS Corporation Americas (URS), on behalf of Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO - a BP affiliated <br /> company), has prepared this report to document well destruction activities conducted at ARCO Station <br /> No 2093 located at 3425 Tracy Boulevard, Tracy, California (Figures 1 and 2) The destruction of site <br /> wells was in response to the June 23, 2005, letter from the California Regional Water Quality Control <br /> Board, Central Valley Region (CRWQCB-CVR) to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health <br /> Department (SJCEHD) in order to receive a no-further-action-required decision for the site (Attachment <br /> A) <br /> Permitting <br /> Well destruction permits were obtained from the SJCEHD and an encroachment permit was obtained <br /> from the City of Tracy prior to conducting field activities on the site (Attachment B) <br /> Well Destruction Activities <br /> On October 20, 2005, well locations ATR-8 and ATR-1 I were hand cleared for utilities to 5 feet below <br />� ground surface (bgs) using an air-knife, back-filled with sand and capped with cold patch asphalt Well <br /> locations ATR-7 and VES-7 (located within planters) were hand cleared for utilities via air-knife but an <br /> excavation trench with pea-gravel was encountered at approximately 3 5 feet bgs in ATR-7 and at <br />�( approximately 2 feet bgs in VES-7 Clearing activities were halted and the locations back-filled with <br /> sand Numerous well locations were unable to be hand cleared for utilities due to the size of the vault <br /> box (safety issue for air-knife crew) VEW-1, VES-2, S-3, SMW-1, and ATR-3 were built within 2-foot <br /> by 2-foot by approximately 1 foot deep well vaults with an additional 6 inches of concrete surface <br /> completion and concrete vault floors VES-3, VES4, VES-5, VES-6, S-1, S-2, ATR4, and ATR-5 were <br /> built in 4-foot by 3-foot vaults by approximately 3 5 to 4 feet deep Additionally, these locations were <br /> inaccessible to the drill rig for drill out ATRA located near the old remediation building and ATR-6 <br /> located near the driveway at the corner of two curbs and where new signage and light posts for the <br /> station was installed Site conditions were discussed with the SJCEHD and alternatives to well <br /> URS Corporation <br /> Crown Corporate Center <br /> 2870 Gateway Oaks Drive Suite 150 <br /> Sacramento CA 95833 <br /> Tel 916 679 2000 K IWprocess\JS BP ARCO\02093%Well Destr12093 Well Destruction Report draft doc <br /> Fax 916 679 2900 <br />
