The new wells will be connected to a soil and groundwater
remediation system when the system is installed (remediation piping is:already in place). i
Figure 1 is a site location map. Figure 2 presents the locations of the wells and boreholes that
have been drilled at this facility. The work was authorized by Task Order 2093-94-2. +
A work plan for this work was prepared by BC and was submitted to and approved by the
: San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division (County). A copy
of this work plan is included with this report as Appendix A. The wells were installed under
County well permit number 003982. A copy of the permit is included with this report as
Appendix B.
Background
l
In late December 1986 and January 1987, one 550-gallon waste oil tank was removed from
the west side of the ARCO building. Laboratory results of the soil samples collected during
the tank removal indicated that hydrocarbons were present in the soil at the base of the
excavation but'not in the sidewalls. The excavation was approximately 1'2 feet deep which
means that the hydrocarbons identified in the soil at the base of the excavation are contained
! in the groundwater.
In April 1987, groundwater monitoring wells ATR-1 through ATR-4 were installed at the
facility to determine the extent of hydrocarbons in the groundwater beneath the site, to
evaluate the site geology, and determine the groundwater gradient and flow direction.
