At my request, Mr. Knoll has reviewed his documentation
and is currently attempting to set up a meeting in early December between Unocal, their
Geologist of record, the SJCPHS and your department to assess further remediation.
I wish to make my position quite clear that I am not satisfied with Unocal's lirnitod site
assessment. Apparently due to an oversight in the initial study phase, Unocal has
consistantly ignored investigating the rearmost portion of the site, which was arbitrarily
"severed" from the property by the errection of a temporary barricade fence. This portion
of property is within fifteen feet of the former U.S. _location(the area of greatest
pollution) and is in a downgradient position during the high ydater months (their geology
reports) .........and nobody has seen fit to investigate this area for contamination!!
Our concerns are of a more long term nature in that our future development/sale plans for
this site are wholly affected by the thoroughness of Unocal's remediation. I am appealing
to you as the final, independent signatory body in this mitigation process to review my
concerns with Mr. Knoll as soon as possible. If, at this time you would make a
preliminary assessment of the available data with recommendations as to what is required,
I feel confident we can get this mitigation back on track.
