San Joaquin St <br /> Stockton, California 95201 <br /> SUBJECT Workplan for Well Abandonment <br /> Former Unocal Station #6348 <br /> 3788 Tracy Boulevard <br />' Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Knoll: <br />' At your request, Mittelhauser Corporation (Mittelhauser) prepared this workplan for the <br /> abandonment of four groundwater monitoring wells located at the subject site. The <br /> location of the site is shown in Figure 1 - Site Location Map The proposed well <br /> abandonment will be performed in preparation for closure of the site Closure will follow <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Service (SJCPHS) guidelines <br />' BACKGROUND <br />' The wells to be abandoned are the four onsite groundwater monitoring wells that were <br /> used for quarterly monitoring and sampling at the site. Laboratory analytical results for <br /> samples taken from the wells have been clean over the last four quarters of sampling <br /> (third quarter 1993 through fourth quarter 1994). Based on the groundwater results and <br />' the results of the Additional Site Characterization Investigation (Mittelhauser, February <br /> 1995), Unocal is applying to San Joaquin County for closure of the site The wells will <br /> be abandoned as part of the site closure The well abandonment procedures which will <br />' be used on the project are outlined in the following section <br /> WELL ABANDONMENT <br /> Prior to beginning abandonment work at the site, Mittelhauser will obtain approval of this <br />' workplan from the SJCPHS. Mittelhauser will also obtain a well abandonment permit for <br /> the project. A copy of the permit application for the abandonment of the four onsite <br /> groundwater monitoring wells in included in Attachment 1 <br />' Abandonment of the groundwater monitoring wells will Involve a three-phase procedure <br /> that has been verbally approved by Mr. Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS/Environmental Health <br /> Division in personal communications with Mr. Roger Papler of Mittelhauser. <br /> Your Partner in Environmental Management <br />' Chicago, IL Indianapolis, IN Laguna Hills, CA ■ Pleasanton, CA <br />
