The two remaining borings, ACS-3 and ACS-4, were drilled offsite in the vacant lot,
' east of and adjacent to the former Unocal station These two offsite borings were
also located east of the former location of the USTs and outside the perimeter of the
' backfilled excavation
' 3.1.1 Soil Borings
' All borings were logged by a field geologist under the direction of a California
Registered Geologist Boring logs were prepared using the Unified Soil Classification
' method, and the logs are attached as Appendix D.
' The water boring and soil borings were advanced to an approximate depth of 10 feet
below ground surface (bgs). No soil samples were collected from WB-1 Soil samples
were collected from the soil borings at approximate depths of 5 and 10 feet bgs
Although the groundwater level was at 8 5 feet bgs at the time of this investigation,
the County also requested collecting soil samples below the water table
' Soil samples were retrieved using the hollow-stem auger drilling method. After the
auger was advanced to the desired sampling depths of 5 and 10 feet bgs, a stainless
' steel-lined split spoon sample was driven through the sampling interval with a 140
pound hammer The bottom stainless steel liner was removed, sealed with Teflon and
' plastic endcaps, and properly labeled The sealed soil samples were then placed with
ice in a chilled cooler Proper Chain of Custody was maintained on all samples for
' delivery to Sequoia Analytical Laboratories
The boreholes were backfilled with concrete/bentonite cement. Soil cuttings and
rinsate water from drilling activities were stored in Department of Transportation-
approved 55-gallon drums. Following sample analysis, the soil cuttings and rinsate
will be disposed of at an appropriate facility
21988010 wplFebruwy 1995 3 1"rrttelhauser
0 R P 0 R A T 1 0 N
