1 0 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this workplan is to outline a scope of work to perform additional
assessment of the occurrence of hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds
' beneath the former Unocal Station at 3788 Tracy Boulevard, Tracy, California (Figure
1) Mittelhauser Corporation (Mittelhauser) has prepared this workplan in response
to the letter from San Joaquin County Public Health Services/Environmental Health
Division (SJCPHS/EHD) Technical Review Committee (TRC) dated December 28,
' 1994, expressing concerns regarding delineation of residual contamination at the site
'
20 SITE HISTORY
The former Unocal station was originally constructed by Unocal in 1972 It operated
as a "full service" station until 1976, when it was converted to a "self service"
facility In 1991 , Mittelhauser Corporation installed a series of four monitoring wells
in order to determine groundwater flow direction, and to investigate hydrocarbon-
impacted soil and potential groundwater contamination The station was closed to
' business in 1992. In January of 1993, the underground storage tanks (USTs), fuel
dispensers, subsurface piping, and the automobile hoist were removed At the time
of removal, the USTs appeared to be in good condition. Monitoring well MW-3 was
removed during the tank excavation and was subsequently replaced with MW-3A
' Demolition of the station was undertaken in 1993. Soil closure was granted by San
Joaquin County in a letter dated July 18, 1994
30 SCOPE OF WORK
This workplan includes a scope of work, sampling protocol, and site location figures
' Also, included in this workplan are preparing of a Site Safety Plan and obtaining
drilling permits from San Joaquin Local Health District The workplan addresses the
z,e ,wpu.M,.n ,sss 1 Ittelhauser
C 0 0 P 0 R A T 1 0 H
