1 0 INTRODUCTION <br /> The purpose of this workplan is to outline a scope of work to perform additional <br /> assessment of the occurrence of hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds <br />' beneath the former Unocal Station at 3788 Tracy Boulevard, Tracy, California (Figure <br /> 1) Mittelhauser Corporation (Mittelhauser) has prepared this workplan in response <br /> to the letter from San Joaquin County Public Health Services/Environmental Health <br /> Division (SJCPHS/EHD) Technical Review Committee (TRC) dated December 28, <br /> ' 1994, expressing concerns regarding delineation of residual contamination at the site <br /> ' <br /> 20 SITE HISTORY <br /> The former Unocal station was originally constructed by Unocal in 1972 It operated <br /> as a "full service" station until 1976, when it was converted to a "self service" <br /> facility In 1991 , Mittelhauser Corporation installed a series of four monitoring wells <br /> in order to determine groundwater flow direction, and to investigate hydrocarbon- <br /> impacted soil and potential groundwater contamination The station was closed to <br /> ' business in 1992. In January of 1993, the underground storage tanks (USTs), fuel <br /> dispensers, subsurface piping, and the automobile hoist were removed At the time <br /> of removal, the USTs appeared to be in good condition. Monitoring well MW-3 was <br /> removed during the tank excavation and was subsequently replaced with MW-3A <br /> ' Demolition of the station was undertaken in 1993. Soil closure was granted by San <br /> Joaquin County in a letter dated July 18, 1994 <br /> 30 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> This workplan includes a scope of work, sampling protocol, and site location figures <br /> ' Also, included in this workplan are preparing of a Site Safety Plan and obtaining <br /> drilling permits from San Joaquin Local Health District The workplan addresses the <br /> z,e ,wpu.M,.n ,sss 1 Ittelhauser <br /> C 0 0 P 0 R A T 1 0 H <br />
