The electric probe found fluid at
34. 15'and bottom at 36, 65' toc. This well had about 10 feet
sheared off and is actually within the pit edge. This well
was flushed in the same manner as No. 1, with almost immed-
iate returns of muddy water, clearing towards the end of the
approximate 10 minute period of purging.
Well No. 3, the northerly well , was the last to be entered.
This well was known to be plugged owing to a previous entry
attempt. This was confirmed by both the electric probe and
the pvc pipe when run. At first, the well could not be
entered with the pipe owing to an internal upset at the
uppermost well joint. The upper well joint was removed and
replaced by internal flush pipe, this enabled the purge pipe
to be run to about 351toc. Water was introduced as before
but there were no returns to the surface. The wash pipe was
reciprocated in order to clear the obstruction; however, the
wash pipe pulled apart at a joint, leaving about 2.r ' of pipe
in the hole. operations were shut down at this point owing
to the time, 4:45 PM, and the fact that two wells couldn't
be entered with the bailer.
on March 23, Richard Thorpe returned to Well No. 3 and
fished the lost pipe by inserting and cementing a joint in
place at the separation. owing to the fact that water .
returns had not been obtained, it was feared that the perf-
orated interval might be damaged and no further attempt to
purge the well was made.
On March 30, 1990, all three wells were developed by
pumping. In attendance were: Richard Thorpe, Dennis Allen,
Hill Hunter and Darlene Reuss. Because the wells were purged Q",
with City water and there was no way to estimate the amount n_
of water that might have entered the formations, it waste "
decided to pump out about three times the required amount t
. :21.2, 'U
for testing or pump the wells dry if that occurred firsto
A rented Geo-Guard bladder Bump was used an all three wells`.
This pump is a down-hole air cycling pump that produces
through flexible plastic tubing. The pump and tubing were
certified to ba clean by the rental agency, Environmental
Instruments, Concord, CA. 55 gallon drums with sealable tops
were on site for collection of the water pumped from the
wells. This water was to be saved at the Jim Thorpe storage
lot and disposed of into the local sewer if no contamination
was zound.
Pumping wasstarted at Well No. 3, the northerly well, at
about 11 : 15 AN. Muddy, silty water was produced for about 20
minutes, then the well produced essentially clean water for
