Soils in this deposit range in
classification from very clean sand to silty sand. These sails,
because of very high stability and shear strength, have been used
as roadway subbase and the aggregate component of asphalt and
cement treated road bases for many years. The original roads of
the area were constructed from asphalt treated bases with an
asphalt macadam wear surface. These original roads have been
widenod and overlaid with asphalt concrete in recent years and
now serve the city as major traffic arteries.
In 1972 the City of Lodi changed the method of road construction
UN - -
from the historic use of road mix asphalt treated basEs o
untreated Class 2 Aggregate Rase. This change was a rs.ult of
1
