1
4.3 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT AND SURVEYING
At least 24 to 48 hours after installation, the monitoring well (MW-1) was developed to remove
' sediment-laden water and to increase the hydraulic radius of the well Development was
performed using a pneumatic development pump and as described in Appendix B, Sections B-3 2
through B-3 3
' Because a single monitoring well is not sufficient to assess groundwater flow and gradient, MW-1
will not be surveyed until additional wells, if needed, are installed in the future
' 4.4 MEASUREMENT OF WATER LEVELS
A water level measurement was made in monitoring well (MW-1) at the beginning of the
sampling round prior to purging and sampling the well The depth-to-water was measured in
well MW-1 according to the protocol described in Appendix B, Section B-4 The depth-to-
water measurements, at this time, will be utilized only to assess the approximate depth to
groundwater, since one well is not sufficient to assess groundwater flow and gradient The
groundwater depth measured from the top of casing (approximately ground surface) was
approximately 34 04 feet bgs
4.5 COLLECTION OF GROUNDWATER SAMPLES
A total of one groundwater sample was collected on June 6, 2000 The groundwater sample
' was collected from monitoring well MW-1 (see Plate 1) The well was purged and sampled
using a disposable bailer as generally described in Appendix B A transparent disposable bailer
was partially submerged into the groundwater prior to purging the monitoring well to assess the
' groundwater for a potential sheen and/or floating product No product was observed although a
sheen was noted A copy of the monitoring well sampling log is included in Appendix D
Purge water from the monitoring well was stored on site in labeled 55-gallon drums pending
chemical analysis and disposal by the client
4.6 SAMPLE HANDLING
After collection, the soil and water samples were labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody, and
' immediately stored in an iced cooler The samples were transported under chain-of-custody
control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier in a sealed container to Sequoia
Analytical of Sacramento, California for chemical analysis Sequoia is certified by the
' California Department of Health Services to perform the requested analyses
' 20-1417-16 E02/2000R578 July 28, 2000
© 2000 Kleinfelder, Inc Page 6 of 1 i
h! f m F4 17rk 28 2 i 1 Isl Pvl)rlk 5,W(t 51r)( Ion ( 1 )i_'Ui- 1.—`1 1 (209) 948-1 i 4 2110] ')18-1V'21 I
