General Mils SITE CODE: 33812
2000 West Turner Road
Lod:, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/ET--ID) has
completed review of the "Work Plan for Aaditzonal Dolling" dated April 12, 1994 and
' PHS/= has the following comments for your
prepared by Delta Environmental,
consideration.
The work plan proposed three soil borings to be Iocated in the areas where soil samples
T5M, TSN, and ToN, were collected at 15 feet below grade dung the 1991 tank removal.
' Soil contamination has been documented in these areas of up to 820 ppm TPI-1-diesel.
PHS/= requestea adaitional soil mvesngation to deternnne, the vertical extent of the
documented soil contamination. During the dxl-Lbng of the proposed soil bongs, soil
samples are to be collected at five foot intezvals for laboratory analyses. The total depth
'
of the proposed soil bongs are 40 feet below grade. PI.1S/EF;jD assumes that sod samples
will be collected beginning at 15 feet below grade, since the tank pit has been backfilled with
clean material.
PHS/EHD concurs that the proposed investigatson should adequately characterize the
' documented sorl contamination. The leaching potential analysis referenced in the Leakm
Underground Fuel Tanis Field Manual prepared by the State Water Resources Control
Board, indicates what levels of sod contamination may pose a threat to groundwater. Based
' on site specific conditions, sod type, location and seasonal high depth to ground water, up
to 100 ppm TPH-diesel could be left in place at 25 feet below grade without posing a
' significant threat to groundwater.
Please suormt a permit apphcation for the soil borings ana S89 to PHS/=. Upon
issuance of a drilling permit, fieldwork may commence. Please provide PHS/EHD 48 hours
' .notice prior to intnating field work, so that PHS/E= can witness soil sampling and, grouting
of the boreholes.
A nni,ion of San jwaquin County Henith Care-h r ice%
