TABLE 2-2
GENERAL RIS'K A?PRAI.SAL
FOR PROTECTION OF WATER QUALITY YES
ND
APPLICABILITY C.t ECIKLIST ,
i
1. Is the site in a mountainous area? (snaded mcast
areas &/or areas wish rocky sunsurface conditions}
' 2 Is the site 1n an area that could cone surface
f rsnaff or intercept water from a source other t``ian
I the natural preczpwpat;on?
' 13 . Does the areal extent of soil ccntaminatian 1
exceed 3000 Beet"
4 . Do the concentrations az fuel constituents .n any
soil samples exceed the following amounts:
benzene - 100 ppm, toluene - 80 ppm, xylene - 4a
' ppm, ethylbenzene - 40 ppm?
5 Are there any records or evidence of man-made or
i natural ocDects which could provide a conduit for
vertical m?cration of leachate?
5. Do any boring or excavation logs show the presence
of fractures, Dozits or Faults that could act as a
conduit- For vesical migration of leachate?
7 Do anv boring logs show that contaminated soil
i
could be within 5 ft. of '
highest ground water
i 8 . Do any boring logs show the presence of a layer of
' material, 5 ft. th_.ck or more, whsch is more than X
75% sand and/or gravel?
Direct-ions:
1. Boring logs taken during the general risk
appraisal can be used to answer Questions 5-8 . In
addition, analytical results of the soil sa:aples
' taken during the general risk appraisal can be
used to ans-der questions 3 and 4.
2. Lateral migration of constituents to problem areas
' should also be considered in questions 5-8.
3 . The above checklist contains questions which are
designed to identify sues with environmental
' conditions which could produce a greater risk to
ground water than was modeled. The results of the
general risk aapralsal are most applicable if all
of the questions an the checklist can be answered
' "no" with reasonable certainty. If any of the
auestions an the checklist cannot be answered
"no" , then the results of the general risk
appraisal may be less valid.
38
1
