WZ1 INC
7.0 SITE ASSESSMENT INVESTIGATION RESULTS
7.1 Site Geology
Appendix I is a compilation of lithologic logs from the soil borings and monitoring wells
completed by McLaren (1989a) The soils encountered during drilling and excavation
activities at the site reportedly consisted primarily of a slightly moist, clayey silt to silty sand
unit that was present at a depth of approximately eight feet bgs Beneath these soils, a
moist, silty, sandy clay unit was present that extended to an approximate depth of 17 feet
bgs (McLaren, 1989x)
A saturated, moderately well sorted, well rounded, fine grained sand to silty sand unit was
reported to be present from 17 feet to 34 feet bgs on the eastern side of the site The
bottom of this unit was reportedly encountered by soil borings and monitoring wells at
increasingly shallower depths westward and was ultimately encountered at approximately
25 feet on the west side of the site (McLaren, 1989a)
A silty, slightly sandy, moist clay unit was identified at approximately 34 feet bgs in soil
borings and monitoring wells located on the east side of the site As exploratory drilling
activities progressed in a southwesterly direction, this unit was encountered at depths
averaging approximately 25 feet bgs This clay unit was present at total depth in all
monitoring well borings The maximum thickness of the clay was not determined but, based
on lithologic logs, the clay has a minimum thickness of five feet throughout the site
A cross section reference map of the investigation area is presented as Exhibit 4
Generalized geologic cross sections which depict the lithologic units encountered at the site
are depicted in Exhibits 5 and 6
19150011 005 22
