Soil Sample Collection
Discrete soil samples were collected continuously from boring BI using a Geoprobe macro soil
sampling assembly and a 4-foot Teflon sleeve, beginning at 4 feet bsg and continuing to 24 feet bsg
After collection, the ends of a 6-inch portion of the sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped
and sealed with tape. Each sample sleeve was labeled with soil probe boring location, depth, time,
date and sampler's initials. Soil samples were not collected from probe boring B2.
Each preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory. Selected
samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d), by EPA Method 8015 Modified/3550.
• Volatile organics and fuel oxygenated compounds by EPA Method 8260.
3.3. Ground Water Sample Collection
A grab ground water sample was collected from probe boring B2 using a temporary PVC screen. The
probe rods were advanced to a depth approximately four feet below the water table. The hollow steel
rods were then pulled out, and a screened casing was inserted into the saturated zone. Ground water
was allowed to enter the casing, and samples were retrieved using a modified PVC tubing bailer.
Sufficient sample was collected from boring B2 to fill three 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials
containing 0.5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a preservative and one 1-liter amber bottle without a
sample preservative. Ground water sample containers were labeled with probe boring designation,
date, time, and samplers initials.
The preserved samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to a DHS-certified laboratory; selected samples were analyzed for:
• TPH-d by EPA Method 8015M/3550;
• BTEX by EPA Method 602.
• Volatile organics and fuel oxygenated compounds by EPA Method 8260.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
