After several months of
investigation FGL has implemented numerous in-house corrective actions for future analysis and
reporting. I met with Mr. Dunnahoo this morning at our offices in Stockton to discuss this site and
others, he provided PHS/EHD with updated reports with corrections. One error can be observed on the
new report which l was assured will be corrected regarding method QA1QC for BFB which should read
as 0.020 mg/kg (concentration of spike). A final revision is anticipated after he returns to the southern
Califomia lab later this month.
I have included copies of the original data which clearly shows the errors I observed and requested
corrections to in July of 1996. The errors include incorrect units for TPH Gas, BFB, and BTEX(should
be mg/kg for all not mg/l or ug/l since the matrix is soil not water). We also discussed the 50% failure
rate for method QA/QC MS, AR, and/or RPD for BTEX and TPH Gas (noted as 410). It appears that
the Calibration QA/QC is adequate which may suggest the matrix is an issue rather than the instrument,
technique or spike to analyte relationship (ie, analysis for TPH-G, BTEX all ND, see supporting
chromatogram and lab QA1QC spreadsheets). I have spoken with one RP, Duncan Keir today
regarding the delay of information for site closure and will forward a copy of this fax and supporting data
to him and all RP's for their records. I hope this information you requested will help to expedite the
closure at this site. Please feel free to contact me should you require more specific details regarding
this issue at your earliest convenience.
