operation at this location for over 50 years and is expected to remain an active aggregate <br /> quarry in the future. <br /> 4.0 SCOPE OF FIELD ACTIVITIES <br /> In September 2013, it was observed that monitoring well MW-4 has been severely <br /> damaged, due to which field crew could not obtain any samples from the well. Based on <br /> SJCEHD correspondence dated April 2, 2014, SOMA is proposing to destroy this well by <br /> over drilling and removing well casing and other materials. <br /> 4.1 Identified Areas of Concern and Media Affected: <br /> 1. Drilling activities; <br /> 2. Fuel hydrocarbons in vapor and soil; <br /> 3. Heavy equipment; <br /> 4. Noise <br /> 5. Heat and cold; <br /> 6. Possible increased PPE and associated safety issues; and <br /> 7. Utilities-Natural gas and electrical hazards. <br /> 4.2 Hazardous Substances Known or Suspected at Site: <br /> CHEMICAL ROUTES OF EXPOSURE <br /> TPH-g Ingestion/Dermal/Inhalation <br /> TPH-d Ingestion/Dermal/Inhalation <br /> Benzene Ingestion/Dermal/Inhalation <br /> Toluene Ingestion/Dermal/Inhalation <br /> Ethylbenzene Ingestion/Dermal/Inhalation <br /> Total Xylenes Ingestion/Dermal/Inhalation <br /> 4.3 Potential Physical Hazards at Site <br /> 4.3.1 General Safety Hazards <br /> Lifting of heavy objects may be required, all personnel should be aware of proper lifting <br /> techniques and seek assistance with heavy or awkward loads. All personnel should be <br /> aware of the location of loads being lifted and should remain clear of lifting areas. Work <br /> in residential driveways will be properly coordinated to alert and control vehicular and <br /> pedestrian traffic. <br /> 4.3.2 Underground Utility Hazards <br /> An underground utility check was preformed prior to initiating any subsurface investigation <br /> _ or work. The check will include identification of underground piping by USA notification, <br /> and a utility check by a private utility locator. <br /> Underground telephone, electrical, sewer, water, and natural gas lines are expected. <br /> 4.3.3 Overhead Power Lines <br /> 2 <br />
