GROUNDWATER MONITOR WELLS
FIRST QUARTER 2005 MONITORING REPORT
RMC PACIFIC MATERIALS - KERLINGER AGGREGATE FACILITY
30350 South Tracy Boulevard, Tracy, California
San Joaquin County Site #1737
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the First Quarter 2005 results of groundwater monitoring-well
samplings undertaken on March 30, 2005 by RMC PACIFIC MATERIALS (RMC) at the above-
referenced property The report describes the sampling protocol utilized, the results of laboratory
analyses on the water samples, and a discussion of the findings to date
MONITORING PROTOCOL
The sampling and analyses of the groundwater monitoring wells were undertaken in
accordance with the sampling requirements delineated by the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department (EHD) in their November 6, 2003 letter to RMC The sampling process used
in groundwater monitoring wells MW-04, MW-05, MW-06, MW-07 and MW-08 was as
follows
• The well caps were removed prior to measurement and sampling to allow equilibrium
with atmospheric pressure
• Depth-to-water measurements were made using an electronic water tape and recorded on
field sheets (Table 1, field sheets in Appendix 2) The depth-to-water measurements were
also used to determine if the groundwater gradient among the wells had changed since the
wells were last sampled in December 2004
• The volume of water in each well was calculated in the field using the measured depths-
to-water
• The wells were purged of three casing volumes of water using the dedicated bladder
pumps in each well
• Field readings were taken at approximately three-gallon intervals to monitor the pH,
temperature and conductivity of the extracted water (Appendix B)
• Groundwater samples were collected into laboratory-supplied 40-m1 VOA vials and one-
liter amber glass sample bottles
• The sample containers were properly labeled, placed into a cool icechest and transported
under strict chain-of-custody documentation to Severn Trent Laboratory (STL) in
Pleasanton, California for analysis
• The samples were analyzed by EPA method 8015M for diesel range petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH-diesel) and by EPA method 8021 B for benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene, and xylenes (BTEX)
Quarter 1 Sampling Report-2005
