TA-88-9 , FAMILY FOOD PRODUCTION
(ALL DISTRICTS )
IT IS RFCOMMENDFD:
That the Board of Supervisors :
1 . Approve the Negative Declaration and instruct the Clerk to file
a Notice of Determination; and
2 . Approve Planning Title Text Amendment No. TA-88-9 , based on the
"Bases for Recommendation" given in the staff report.
REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The proposed Text Amendment was initiated in response to the Planning
Commission ' s directive to staff to consider hog raising as an eligible
activity under family food production. Staff expanded this focus to
include an analysis of animal standards in general and a comprehensive
assessment of animal raising for family food production.
As modified by the Commission, the Text Amendment would:
1. Provide in table form animal standards for three animal raising
categories: Family Food Production, Educational Animal
Project, and General Animal Raising.
2 . Allow the raising of up to 5 large animals (e.g. , 5 hogs, or 5
goats, or 5 sheep, or 5 cows, or up to 5 of any combination of
animals ) as an activity under Family Food Production in all
agricultural zones and in the RR and RA zones.
3 . Include Educational Animal Project as a permitted use in the RR
and RA zones, provided the number of animals that are raised do
not exceed the number allowed under Family Food Production.
4 . Make applications for poultry farms and small animal farms sub-
ject to Site Approval in the EA and GA zones.
BOS LETTER PAGE 1
