Subject: Closure Report for 20913 East Highway 12, Clements
HLI 02803
Dear Ms. Turkatte:
At the request of Teichert Aggregates, we are submitting this report which summarizes the
results of sampling that was conducted as part of the removal of an underground storage
tank from a site owned by Teichert Land Company in Clements, California. Because
petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples collected from the bottom and
sidewalls of the tank excavation, it was necessary to remove approximately 100 cubic yards
of soil from the excavation.
The extent of the soils requiring excavation was determined using field indicators such as
the presence of hydrocarbon vapors measured by an organic vapor analyzer, visible staining
and hydrocarbon odors. Based on absence of petroleum hydrocarbons (as determined by
laboratory analysis) in all but one of the samples collected from the sidewalls of the tank
hole after the contaminated areas in the western and northern portion of hole were
excavated, no further removal of soil appears warranted. Hence, Teichert Aggregates is
requesting a letter from the County concurring that no further corrective actions are
required and that site %longer considered to be under regulatory oversight.
4-%,0
TANK REMOVAL AND TEST RESULTS
Ud
In May of 1991 a 630-gallon steel tank used for storing gasoline was removed from the site
by Triangle of Sacramento in accordance with the permit issued by the County of San
Joaquin Bureau of Fire Prevention and the requirements of the County Public Health
Services Department. The site was leased by Teichert Land Company to another party for
,r agricultural purposes who reportedly used the tank to support their agricultural activities.
At the time the tank was removed, two soil samples (S-1 and S-2) were collected from the
. ends of the excavation, but only one sample was analyzed because the volume of the tank
was less than 1,000 gallons. The results of this analysis indicated the presence of
Lr
