KLEINFELDER
August 30, 1993
File 24-220211-A00
Mr Brick Joseph
Cal West Concrete Cutting, Inc
1153 Vanderbilt Circle
Manteca, California 95336
Subject: Limited Groundwater Assessment
Cal West Concrete Cutting, Inc.
Manteca, California
Dear Mr Joseph
Enclosed are the analytical results for the third round of groundwater sampling from the
monitoring well (MW-1) at the Cal West Concrete Cutting facility in Manteca The following
summarizes the field activities and results of the groundwater sampling Petroleum
hydrocarbon concentrations were not detected above laboratory reporting limits in the
groundwater samples Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel were detected at 68 µg11, which
is gust above the reporting limit of 50 ligll Benzene was detected at the reporting limit of
0.3 µg11
BACKGROUND
The site is located at 1153 Vanderbilt Circle in Manteca Two underground storage tanks
(10,000 gallon diesel and 5,000 gallon gasoline) were excavated and removed from the site
Later, at the request of San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS), additional soil
was removed from the excavation
Ms Linda Turkette of the SJCPHS indicated that the County will not request additional sail
removal based on results of the groundwater assessment Currently, groundwater is
approximately 18 feet below the ground surface However, due to historically shallow
groundwater at the site (approximately 10 feet below ground surface), the County requested
the installation of one to three groundwater monitoring wells to assess the potential presence of
petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater
Kleinfelder proposed installing one monitoring well immediately downgradient of the
excavation to assess groundwater Ms Turkette indicated that there is a site nearby with
existing groundwater monitoring wells If the groundwater gradient at this site appeared to be
consistent for at least two quarters, SJCPHS would consider the initial installation of a single
monitoring well downgradient of the excavation
As part of the groundwater assessment at Cal West Concrete Cutting, Inc (Cal West),
Kleinfelder reviewed groundwater assessment reports for a facility at 575 Industrial Park Drive
to assess the local groundwater gradient Groundwater level measurements on August 23 and
24-220172-AOO/DR4fi0(1993) Page 1 of 4 August 30, 193
Copynght 1993 Klaanfelder, Inc
KLEINFEIDER 3(177 Fete Circk Suriwvnlo CA 95827 (916) 366-1701
