Mr. Charles Lawler
Re: Report of excavation dewatering ,sidewall sampling, and backfill at.300 Washington
Ave., Stockton CA.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this report is to present the results of an investigation to help determine the
extent of hydocarbons in soil in the vicinity of underground fuel tanks previously removed.
This report documents groundwater disposal details, sampling protocols and chemical
data.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work comprised evacuating the groundwater within the excavation;
sampling the soil at the excavation sidewalis at a depth of approximately twenty feet;
and backfilling the excavation.
2.1 Previous Excavation Scope
An area of approximately 5000 sq. feet was excavated to a depth of.approximately 20 feet.
Soils from the surface to nine feet were stockpiled on the site as clean overburden. Soils
from nine feet to twenty feet were stockpiled on site to be remediated at a future date.
2.2 Sidewail Sampling
On December 14,1995, four soil samples were recovered from the sidewalls of the
excavation at locations shown in Figure 2. The samples were recovered at a depth of
approximately twenty feet bgs., using an excavator bucket.
2.2.1 Soil-Sampling Procedure
Under the direction of Linda Turkatte of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Department, at the desired sample sidewall location, the excavator bucket was driven into
the excavation sidewall until an undisturbed sidewall piece had broken away and into the
excavator bucket: The excavator bucket was then brought to-the ground surface for
observation. Under the direction of. Linda Turkatte, a: sleeved, bullet sampler was then
drivers into the undisturbed piece of sidewall until the sample container had completely filled
with soil. Upon removal of the sample container from the bullet sampler, the container ends
were sealed with Teflon sheets and plastic caps.
1115 Merrill Street Menlo Park, California 94025 4151325-3216
