31 January 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0796
• Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Report preparation.
The preliminary site assessment tasks are discussed below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance five soil probe borings using direct push technology (DPT) to
determine if TRPH and/or HVOC contamination is present in soil beneath the site. The proposed
probe boring location is illustrated in Figure 2.
The probe boring will be advanced to 15 feet below surface grade (bsg) The proposed boring
location may be modified due to field observations or additional borings may be advanced with
approval by the PHS-EHD. Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg
extending to the total probe boring depth.
Field procedures for advancement of the soil probe boring and collection of soil samples are
presented in Sections 4.1 and 4.2. Selected soil samples from the probe borings will be submitted
for laboratory analysis with concurrence of the PHS-EHD. The selected soil samples will be
analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the
following constituents:
• TRPH in accordance with EPA Method 418.1; and
• HVOC in accordance with EPA Method 8010.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
