a
` City of Ripon
1210 Vera Avenue
USTCF ## 08491
NARRATIVE WORK DESCRIPTION
1210 VERA A ENUE
RIPON, CALIFORNIA
The project site is at 1210 Vera Avenue in the City of Ripon. It
serves as the City of Ripon' s corporation yard for some of the
City' s vehicles ,and equipment . On 14ay 23 , 1990, two (2) 10, 000
gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the site.
The USTs formerly stored regular gasoline and diesel fuel . Soil
samples were collected from the botton of the UST excavation during
the removal operations . One soil sample contained Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) at a coilcentration of 9, 800 parts per
million (ppm) .
On February 23 , 1995, Clearwater Group, Inc . (Clearwater) commenced
a soil and water investigation of the site by installing three 2-
inch-diameter monitoring wells to a depth of 30 feet below ground
surface . Two soil samples were collected at depths of 10 to 20
feet below ground surface. The samples were analyzed for TPH as
gasoline (TPHg) , TPHd, and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and
Xylene (BTEX) constituents . No etroleum hydrocarbons were
detected in the soil samples col ected during soil borehole
drilling. However, all three groundwater samples collected from
the monitoring wells on February 28, 1995, contained TPHd in
concentrations up to 330 parts per billion (ppb) .
Subsequent quarterly groundwater monitoring samples were collected
from the three monitoring wells on May 26, 1995, indicating TPHd
levels of 110 ppb and 530 ppb in two of the monitoring wells .
However, quarterly groundwater monitoring samples collected on
October 18, 1995, and December 21, 1995, were analyzed and found to
have no detectable levels of TPHd, T Hg, or BTEX.
On October 4 , 1995, Clearwater submitted the Workplan for
Additional Site Assessment to Mr. Ron Rowe of San Joaquin County
Public Health Services/Environments Health Division (PHS/EHD) .
The Workplan proposed drilling one spit boring in the former fuel
dispenser location and installing four (4) additional monitoring _
wells . To date, Clearwater has received no written comments from
PHS/EHD regarding the Workplan. However, several weeks ago we were
informed that PHS/EHD may be in the process of preparing a package
for review 'by the Regional Water Quality Control Board which will
recommend closure as a low risk site .
59317-1
