San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division tEHD)had requested,in a letter dated October 1,1990,that the soil near the three monitoring wells
ba resa-,tpled and analyzed to confirm the soil characterization.
A Groundwater Technology, Inc. geologist collected the three soil samples using hand-auger and impact-
samp'er techniques on March 6, 1991. The sampling locations MW-6R, MW-7R and MW-811 were within 5
feet from MW-5, MW-7 and MW-8 (Figure 1). A 2.5-inch outside-diameter hand auger was used to bore
dawn to a depth of approximately 5 feet below grade at each sampling location.
A brass tube,2 inches in diameter by 6 inches long, was inserted in an impact sampler and driven into the
sail at the bottom of each hole to collect a sail sample. Sample depths were 5-5.5 feet in MW-611 and MW-
7R,and 6-6.5 feet in MW-811. The brass tubes were capped with aluminum foil and plastic caps, sealed with
duct tape, labeled, and placed on ice in an insulated container to preserve the samples during transport to
GTEL Environmental Laboratories, Inc. (GTEL), in Concord, California for analysis. The samples were
accompanied by a chain-of-custody form during transport to the laboratory.
The hand auger, impact sampler and brass tubes were washed with industrial detergent and rinsed with
distilled water prior to collecting etch sample. Each auger ho:e was backfilled with neat cement to 0.5 foot
below grade.
Tha soil samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene(13TEX),and total petroleum
hydrocartons-as-gasoline(TPH-G) using EPA methods 5030/8020 and modified 8015. As recordod in the
attached laboratory report,no STEX nor TPH-G components were detected in the three soil samples.
- This work step completes the requirements for the Problem Assessment Report(PAR)dated July 16, 1990.
Ofrices rhrnrfghorrr rhe•i-.5..Canada and Overseas -
