• One spiked sample for every ten samples, batch of samples or type of matrix, whichever is more
frequent, with the spike made at ten times the detection limit or at the analyte level.
ATL was instructed to homogenize the soil samples in accordance with contract specifications prior to
analysis for metals.
INVESTIGATION RESULTS
The following sections present Summaries of the field sampling and laboratory testing activities.
Soil Conditions
At each boring location native alluvial soil was encountered beneath the asphalt pavement. The alluvium
was generally comprised of clayey silt to silty clay to depths between 13 and 14 feet underlain by silty
fine sand.Field indicators of apparent contamination(i.e.staining,odors,elevated PID readings)were not
observed during the field sampling activities. Copies of boring logs presenting soil descriptions, sample
depths and PID readings are attached.
Analytical Results
GRO, VOCs, SVOCs and PCBs were not detected above the laboratory reporting limits in each soil
sample analyzed. DRO and ORO were detected in each soil sample at relatively low concentrations
ranging from 3.6 to 5.6 milligrams per kilogram.
Metals including arsenic, barium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, nickel, vanadium and zinc were
reported in each soil sample at concentrations within the range of naturally occurring background levels.
Summaries of the soil analytical data are presented in Tables 2 and 3. Copies of the laboratory report and
COC documentation are attached.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on field observations and lack of significant contaminant concentrations in the soil samples
obtained from borings BI and B2, no evidence of UST-related petroleum hydrocarbon releases were
identified.
We recommend that Caltrans properly abandon the tank in-place in accordance with SJCEHD permit
requirements. Comcast should further be notified that tank abandonment will include the portion of their
fiber optic line that penetrated the tank.
Linden UST Site Investigation,TO No.4 Caltrans Contract 06A 1895,EA No. 10-OY3600
Geocon Project No.S9800-01-04 -4- December 11,2013
