Initially, California Cedar
Products asked for a six-foot westward shift in the future Wilcox
Road right-of-way, south of State Route 88 . When it became apparent
that California Cedar Products might not be able to acquire the
additional six-foot right-of-way strip on the west side of Wilcox
Road, the applicant asked the Planning Commission for permission
to modify its application. The Planning Commission continued the
matter to its meeting of April 21 , 1988 . The present proposal
is for a modification of the cross section map of the Wilcox Road
Specific Plan.
The adopted Wilcox Road Specific Plan cross section shows a
ten-foot wide sidewalk improvement on both the east and west sides
of the future Wilcox Road. California Cedar Products requests
that the sidewalk width on the east side be reduced from ten
feet to four feet. This modification would not require the acqui-
sition of additional right-of-way.
The Department of Public Works recommends denial of the SP-88-1
request because of potential pedestrian safety hazards due to
the creation of a substandard sidewalk and an existing offset
of the road center line to the west. The Planning Division will
support the Department of Public Works recommendation on SP-88-1 .
Additional comments will be provided at the Development Committee
meeting.
