I. BACKGROUND
Quality Assured Packing Inc. is a food processing firm located at 2851 N.
Bozzano Rd. , northeast of Stockton, California. The facility has been
processing and canning tomatoes since July 1985"'; apricot processing was
added in June 1988`'. Finished products include canned apricot halves,
apricot concentrate, tomato paste, whole tomatoes, and other drum products.
Wastewater for these processes is land applied under order 88-094 of the
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, (RWQCB) , Central Valley
Region.
The cannery is adjacent to land utilized for wastewater disposal and treat-
ment. Two additional fields are located , mile east of the cannery. See
Figure 1 for locations of parcels 101-80-17, 101-80-19, 101-110-28, 101-110-
29, 101-110-30, -H4-1-2 v" , 101-120-23, 101-130-57, 101-130-14, 101-130-46,
101-120-7. These fields provide 149 acres nominally, and are of Stockton adobe
clay, and Wyman clay loam soils predominantly"'. Land slopes in this area are
approximately 0.2%"'.
This report addresses current and future planning for handling wastewater
disposal . Information on past methods implemented for handling wastewater
flows and the impacts of wastewater disposal operations on groundwater can be
obtained from the "Technical Report and Operating Plan, September 1988"`5j, and
from the report "Groundwater Salinity Impacts of Wastewater Disposal Opera-
tions"`6'.
II. PROPOSED CHANGES IN WASTEWATER DISCHARGES
Quality Assured Packing Inc. proposes to change the daily flow rate of
effluent discharged from the facility and the extent and location of the
disposal areas.
A. Changes in Discharge Flow Rate
1. Harvest Months (June`-= ;IIcto6 it
The current discharge order 88-094 is written for a maximum daily dry
weather flow of 0.45 million gallons during the tomato season, and 0. 125
million gallons during the apricot season. The management at QAP expects
that growth in production levels at the facility will cause wastewater
flow rates to increase to 1 .5 million gallons daily over several' years#
It is anticipated that proportionately less wastewater will continue to be
generated during the June apricot season, although the wastewater treat-
ment and disposal facilities will be capable of handling the full 1 .5 mgd
during this period.
1
RP050-L
