' 26 October 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
' Page 7of10
' 3.1.1. Western Ditch Area
A total of six soil samples from the western ditch area were submitted to PET for analysis as noted
t above.TRPH was detected in all samples, but was particularly elevated in I sample DS 1-2,which also
had elevated concentrations of chromium, lead and zinc. The chromium concentration(663 mg/kg)
exceeds the Preliminary Remediation Goal for industrial soil of 450 milligrams per kilogram
' (mg/kg). The lead concentration(357 mg/kg) exceeds the California modified PRG of 130 mg/kg,
but does not exceed the EPA PRGs for either residential or industrial soil. Although zinc
concentrations are elevated in DS 1-2 (1,730 mg/kg), the level does nod exceed any PRGs for the
' metal. The concentrations of each analyte decrease northward.
Analysis of two samples collected in the ditch area for pentachlorophenol and tetrachlorophenol
' (wood preservatives utilized in the concrete tanks nearby), showed no detectable concentrations.
Contaminants detected in DSI-2 were TRPH, chromium, lead and zic. TRPH in DSI-2 were
characterized as motor oil. TRPH and lead concentration dropped significantly from 2 feet bsg to 5
' feet bsg in DS-2. Chromium and zinc were at background concentratio s in DS2-5.
' 3.1.2. Septic Leach Fields
' A total of six soil samples from the leach field area were submitted to PET for analysis as noted
above. All samples collected from the leach field area contained concentrations of TRPH in the 20
to 32 mg/kg range.Sample LP 1-15 contained the highest concentration o TRPH at 55 mg/kg.TRPH
was later characterized as motor oil.
The metals concentrations in soil appear to be at or near background levels, and do not exceed any
' environmental guidelines.
Formaldehyde in soil was detected at concentrations ranging from 2.9 in g to 6.9 mg/kg,and does
' not exceed environmental guideline concentrations. Kleinfelder detected formaldehyde in soil
samples from various areas on the site at concentrations ranging from 26 to 47 mg/kg and in ground
water samples at 23 to 60 parts per billion(micrograms per liter). Kleinfelder interpreted the results
' to most likely be false positives due to the narrow range of concentrations (in soil). The
formaldehyde concentrations detected in the current selected suite of soil samples are approximately
one order of magnitude less than those Kleinfelder encountered. The low concentrations in soil in
' the areas investigated do not appear to be of significant environmental concern, but may indicate an
unidentifed source or sources of the compound on the site.
Analytical results of soil samples are summarized in Table 1. Copie3 of the laboratory report
(PrecisionEnviro-Tech Sample IDSAG0627-01 through AG0627-1 1D,A G0627-13AthroughDand
' AGOIO-01 and AG0710-01A) and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix B.
Advanced GwEnvironmental,Inc.
