qVftDAMES & MOORE A VROFEISUTfin EARTN
1
1 Letter Report
Page three
DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
No detectable levels of diesel or gasoline or constituents of
these fuel products have been detected in groundwater samples
' collected hydraulically upgradient or directly downgradient from
the diesel spill area. Although two of the existing monitoring
wells were unable to be sampled during this investigation, the
absence of fuel contaminants in downgradient well MW-2 , along with
the results of previous groundwater sampling performed at all
existing monitoring wells support the conclusion that the diesel
fuel present in soils in the vicinity of the maintenance shop have
' not impacted groundwater quality.
The observation that monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-2 were dry
indicates a continued decline in the elevation of the water table
' underlying the site. Groundwater level measurements taken over
the course of this investigation show this decline and are
presented below.
' DEPTH TO WATER (ft. )
WELL I .D. 7/24/87 9/10/87 6/13/88 1/31/89
' MW-1 34. 24 36.70 42 .95 dry
MW-2 34.80 37. 28 43 .66 48.95
MW-3 35. 28 37 . 70 44. 13 dry
--------------------------------------------------------------
' Note: All water levels are expressed in feet below top of PVC
casing
Dames & Moore is of the opinion that sampling of the on-site
inactive production well is not necessary based on the following:
' o Sampling and analysis results from monitoring wells located
directly downgradient from the diesel spill area show no
detectable levels of fuel products;
' o The production well is located over 1000 feet cross gradient
from the diesel spill area; and
o The production well is inactive, and therefore is not
expected to influence groundwater flow.
1
