-.44
DAMES & MOORE ,PRI II 1111 ISAL I I h1 I I Y I I P.-\RF%I:R>III P
WORKPLAN FOR SOIL INVESTIGATION
at 1800 Marshall Avenue
Stockton, California
Introduction
Dames & Moore has been retained by American Forest Products Company to
perform a soil boring and sampling program at their former wood remanufacturing
facility located at 1800 Marshall Avenue in Stockton, California.
American Moulding and Millwork, the current owner/operator of the
facility, hired K.H. Kleinfelder to perform a soils and groundwater investiga-
tion at the Stockton facility. The results of this investigation were pre-
sented in a report entitled "Soil and Groundwater Assessment, American Moulding
and Millwork, November 4, 1987." A copy of this report is being submitted
along with this workplan. The report details the methods and results of the
previous investigation.
The objective of the proposed additional work to be performed at the site
by Dames & Moore for American Forest Products Company is to further evaluate
vertical and horizontal extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the
soils adjacent to an underground diesel fuel storage tank and waste oil tank.
Scope of Work
To meet the above objective, Dames & Moore will install 15 soil borings
to a total depth of 30 feet each. The proposed boring locations are shown on
Figures 1 and 2. The borings will be advanced using a truck-mounted drilling
rig equipped with 6-inch O.D. hollow stem augers_ Soil samples will be
collected ahead of the auger flight by driving either a Dames & Moore U-type
sampler or a California modified sampler. soil samples will be retained for
chemical analyses (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons via EPA Method Modified 8015)
at depths of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 feet. Additionally, a maximum of 5 of the
soil samples will also be analyzed for Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (EPA
8100) .
The water table at the site is located approximately 35 to 40 feet below
the ground surface, and therefore, the borings will not extend to the water
table surface.
Upon completetion, all borings will be backfilled to the ground surface
using cement/5% bentonite grout. Drill cuttings generated will be stored
onsite in 55-gallon DOT approved drums (Type 17H) All drums will be properly
labeled as to the source of their contents and disposed of properly pending
analytical laboratory results.
Dames & Moore is currently preparing a site-specific Health & Safety Plan
which will be adhered to during the site investigation.
